The state-of-the-art expansion and up-gradation of Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA) have been completed and inaugurated on Wednesday.
BKIA was originally built in 1927 and since then has been able to facilitate a load of 1.5 million passengers every year. This caused a lot of problems for people and an expansion was much needed.
With the expansion and upgradation completed, the airport will now be able to deal with 3.5 million passengers per year, increasing the load handling of the airport by double.
This was the first phase of the expansion and it was completed in 2 years of time. In addition to increased passenger handling, the airport has also received a state of the art new terminal, new immigration counters, passenger seats, boarding lodges, and more.
From now on anyone traveling from abroad will no longer need to land at Islamabad or Lahore airports to go to KPK because the airport is now able to handle additional flights.
Now the Civil Aviation Authority is aiming to complete expansions on Lahore International Airport and Quetta International Airport.
