Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad is a research-oriented health science institute which is also the regions leading tertiary level hospitals.
The hospital includes 22 medical and surgical specialist centers and provided medical training to students through the Quaid-e-Azam Postgraduate Medical college.
The Institute was established in 1985 to include three semi-autonomous hospitals. It includes the Islamabad Hospital which consists 592 beds spread over an area of 3.5 hectares. A 230 beds children’s hospital is also part of the hospital spreading 1.6 hectares. Another 125 beds are for maternal and child health care.
But ever since its inception in 1985, PIMS has not undergone any kind of renovation. But now the hospital administration is finally taking steps to renovate the hospital.
The renovation’s first phase was just completed a couple of days back which includes the renovation of two wards of the hospital.
The wards now have AC, fans and new lights and windows for summer lights.
Since the hospital is one of the busiest in Islamabad, it has suffered from massive wear and tear over the past 33 years. Here is how the hospital wards used to look like before the renovation.
The renovation began last year with an aim to renovate the entire hospital over the course of next few years. The management of PIMS has now set their eyes on renovating the remaining wards of the hospital. They intend to complete another two wards until each and every ward is renovated.
