The second edition of the Adventure Marathon which was taking place over the weekend ended yesterday. The race started in Islamabad at 8:00 AM and finished at Khanpur lake in Haripur with a total distance of 23 kilometers covered.
12 teams compromising of sixty youth both male and female started at Pir Sohawa and made their way to Khanpur Lake passing through Tilhar, Tonia, and Pomala villages to Kerwali Top and Najabpur area to reach the Khanpur lake. They had to go through 13 kilometers of trekking, 9 kilometers of cycling and 1 kilometer through rafting.
The second Adventure Marathon was held by the Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and the Adventure Edge Club.
The aim of the race was to give the youth an opportunity to indulge in adventure tourism and engage in health-related activities.
At the end of the race, deputy secretary Tauseef Khalid congratulated the racers, the tourism department and the adventure edge club for helping set up such an activity. The race is also an attempt to promote adventure and archaeological tourism in the province. Speaking at the occasion, he assured there are several more projects lined up for the beautification of scenic resorts in the province to make sure more domestic and foreign tourists are attracted.
The winners of the race were awarded RS. 20,000 with Rs. 10,000 each given to the runner-ups.
