Apple finally revealed the new iPhone during their live event today. Here’s everything you need to know about the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X.
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus – The Design
The iPhone 8 is bringing back glass design on the back only this time it is reinforced with steel. The phone is made using Aerospace-grade aluminum with 7 color process.
The iPhone 8 has a 4.7 inches display while the PLUS edition has 5.5 inches display. Both phones are sealed for water and dust resistance.
The display on iPhone 8 has also been upgraded. The new display has better color accuracy and True Tone technology that adapts color and temperature to ambient light.
The iPhone 8 also has upgraded speakers that are 25% louder than the iPhone 7 with deeper bass.
Specifications of iPhone 8
As far as the performance goes, Apple has created a new chip which it is calling the A11 Bionic. According to Apple, it is the strongest chip ever in any smartphone.
The new chip has Six cores and a 64-bit design with 4.3 billion transistors. 2 out of 6 cores are 25% faster than the A10 chip with the remaining four high-efficiency cores that are 70% faster than the previous chip.
The GPU has also been upgraded to an in-house Apple designed GPU which is supposedly 30% faster than the A10.
Camera Specifications
The camera has also received an upgrade. This time it’s a 12 MP camera with a brand new sensor which has deeper pixels and new color filter with optical image stabilization.
iPhone 8 Plus, on the other hand, has dual cameras. Each having the same specs as the single camera on the iPhone 8. The aperture is however different ranging from f/1.8 and f/2.8.
The biggest upgrade to the camera is its video capturing capability. The iPhone 8 will be able to record videos at 4K 60 fps settings. You will also be able to shoot videos at 1080p 250 fps slow-mo.
Augmented Reality
The iPhone 8 is also designed from the ground up to be an AR phone. The cameras have been calibrated for Augmented Reality with low light and 60 fps new gyro and accelerometer which makes motion tracking better. The processor and the GPU have also been attuned towards AR.
Wireless Charging
iPhone 8 can be wirelessly charged thanks to its glass back. To charge wirelessly, there are now charging pads available from Belkin and Mophie.
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus Price and Availability
The iPhone 8 is available in 2 versions. A 64GB variant and a 256GB variant.
The iPhone 8 Plus also has 2 variants. A 64GB version and a 256GB version.
Both phones will be available starting 22nd September.
iPhone X
Apple is calling iPhone X the future of smartphones. It is according to them, the biggest leap since the original iPhone for the company.
The screen
iPhone X front panel is basically all screen. Even the home button has been removed to cater for the super retina 5.8 inches display that can pull out a resolution of 2436 x 1125 resolution.
No more home button
With the home button gone, the lock button has taken its place and it has been placed above where the time display usually is. To quickly unlock the phone, you just have to swipe your finger from bottom to top.
Also replacing the finger scanner is a face-scanner which Apple is calling the Face ID. Simply look at the phone and it unlocks.
Unlock through Facial recognition
To make the phone able to recognize you whether you wear a hat, or glasses or anything else on your head or face, Apple has installed a specific processor with specialized machine learning algorithms.
Also, your eyes need to be open and you must be paying attention to the phone in order for it to unlock. This is to prevent anyone from unlocking your phone while you’re asleep or forcefully putting the phone on your face.
Camera
The iPhone X has dual cameras both having 12 MP sensors with f1.8 and f2.4 apertures. These cameras are both OIS which is a big deal.

The rest of the specifications on the iPhone X are same as iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.
Pricing and availability of iPhone X
The iPhone X will be available in 2 variants, 64 GB and 256GB starting from $999 (approximately RS. 105,269. The phone will be released on November 3rd.
