Pakistani artist Imran Qureshi has just been awarded the US Department of State International Medal of Arts.
Qureshi will receive his award during a biennial ceremony which will take place in Washington DC. on January 12, 2017.
Imran is amongst a few other artist being honored with the award. He will be the only Pakistani to receive this award in 2017.
Based in Lahore, Qureshi is known throughout the world for his beautiful paintings which depict repetition of decorative motifs. His work reworks the painting style of the Mughal courts in the 16th to 19th centuries.
He combines fauna, flora with body parts and calligraphy to finish his paintings.
He introduced blood red paintings after bombings in his home city of Lahore. These paintings show contrasting work between beauty and violence.
His work is for sale on artsy.net. Available paintings range from six by eight inches or large room size installations.
His paintings also show abstracted terms which are a collection of the history of Pakistan.
The International Medal of Arts is awarded only to those who show immense commitment to the Arts in the Embassies mission to cultural diplomacy through international cultural exchange and visual arts.
