Alternative energy company Wavestar has come up with a way to harness the power of the ocean to produce usable power. The company based in Denmark has been working on the ‘big ocean’ commercial 1 megawatt machine. It is expected to hit the market in 2017.
The machine, known also as ‘The Wave Star’ will tap into the frontiers of renewable and limitless energy obtained through the power of waves.
The machine consists of 20 floaters which bounce upon the movement of the waves in a ocean. Currently the machine can produce 1 megawatt of energy through one floater, but the company aims to produce as much as 6 megawatts of energy. This could end up powering as many as 4,000 homes.
As far as safety measures go when the weather is not friendly, the Wavestar is equipped to adapt according to the weather and wave conditions. For example, during storms, the floaters can be lifted up to avoid damage.
