Emma Watson’s name has just appeared in the database containing the details of the Panama Papers Leak.
The Harry Potter star’s name was found in a searchable database containing additional details about the Panama Papers Tax Avoidance Scandal.
The International Consortium of Investigation Journalists (ICIJ) recently published data on 200,000+ entities on its personal website past Monday evening. The released database contains information on trusts, foundations and companies. Users can see who is involved in offshore companies.
Watson’s spokesperson has also confirmed that she has set up an offshore company. However, he also said that she doesn’t receive any tax or monetary advantages from the company. The spokesperson added that just like many other high profile individuals, Watson only set up an offshore company to protect her privacy.
He added, because UK companies are required to publicly publish details of the shareholders involved, there can never be anonymity. Therefore Watson’s only interest was her privacy.
A number of present and past high profile individuals from around the world were named in the first leak of Panama Papers. Apart from world leaders, high profile celebrities like Jackie Chan, Simon Cowell and Heather Mills are just few names.
